Hillfort Newsletter 23.09.22

23rd September 2022

Dear Families,

It is a pleasure to write to you again after a couple of weeks. Across the Truro and Penwith Trust, we were very mindful of putting out news at a time of national mourning. So, we have lots of positive news and information that we wish to share.

Children seem to be settling in now with their new teachers. I’m not sure that the children even see them as ‘new’ any longer! Parents and carers will have the opportunity to meet with teachers soon as part of a Parents’ Evening, but do email/speak to teachers about any concerns you might have at any point! We hugely value our relationships with families.

The academies have been massively oversubscribed this term which we’re pleased about, and those who missed out this time will have priority after Christmas. We’re also pleased to see children around school with their “responsibility lanyards” round their neck – the lanyards shows that they are helping out in some way – in the library, with the computers, and so on!

Perhaps it is a reflection of the times we live in, or that my children seem to know more about computers than I do, but the world of computers can be quite daunting at times. It is, however, still important to keep checking that children are not seeing inappropriate content. There are some incredibly helpful articles on the following website https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/. Can I invite parents to have a look, and hopefully the content might be of some use.

And it has been lovely to see the children on bikes as part of their Bike-ability programme – lots of circling the playground and heading off onto the streets of Liskeard. Be kind if you see them on the roads!

I hope that you have a lovely weekend!

Kindest regards

Tim Cook

On Thursday afternoon, our Year 5/6 football team had their first match of the season against Sir Robert Gefferys Primary from Landrake. Our new team formed just a week ago, still managed to play some good football and were winning the match but just weren’t quite strong enough to see it out, losing to a more experienced side . All the children really enjoyed the match and can’t wait for the next one! Well done everyone.
Miss Harris from the office is off to run in the London Marathon on Sunday 2nd October. She is running this for the charity ‘Children with Cancer Uk’.

Children with Cancer UK is a national charity dedicated to fighting Childhood Cancer. Every penny raised will go towards fighting cancer, keeping families together, and giving more children the chance to ring the bell signaling the end of their treatment.

If anyone would like to donate to Miss Harris’s fundraising, the link to her Just giving page is below or there is a collection tin in the office.
