2021-2022

Our School Councillors have been hard at work putting forward requests on behalf of their classes. One of the top requests was for some new and different AR reading books for children who are able to read above level 5. Well, Dr Cook listened and purchased a great new selection for our children to read ๐Ÿ“š.

We had a special visitor in assembly today ๐Ÿคฉ Cllr Simon Cassidy – Mayor of Liskeard joined assembly to talk to children about his duties within Liskeard, to show off his mayoral robes, to launch our student council elections and to hand out the Star of the Week certificates! โญ๏ธ

2MC have come together to write a poem for National Poetry Day today!
Fantastic work #TeamHillfort ๐Ÿคฉ

We have received this lovely bundle of goodies for our staff room from Thank a Teacher UK ๐Ÿ˜ Thank you!! This will be greatly appreciated from all staff here at Hillfort. ๐Ÿฅฐ

EYFS Merry Christmas
We hope our families enjoyed watching their children perform in their Christmas Nativity plays!
We were super proud of all our children and can only hope they enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
If you missed your child’s performance, please visit the link sent via ParentPay previously and you will be able to watch the nativity online.
We, again, apologise that parents were unable to come along, but would much prefer for everyone to be safe and healthy for upcoming Christmas celebrations!
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas. ๐ŸŽ„

As well as our new selection of AR reading books – our new bookmarks have arrived! ๐Ÿ“–
We really love the designs and hope the children will too! ๐Ÿคฉ
๐Ÿจ The more you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.

Look at all of these amazing gardening goodies we get to order – all thanks to everyone who shops at Morrisons and collected their grow tokens for our school! ๐Ÿคฉ
Mr Borlase has chosen a fantastic range of gardening equipment for our children to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs in our very own polytunnel! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿง‘โ€๐ŸŒพ

What an amazing effort all our runners made on Friday at Bake Lakes Cross Country meet. For many of our runners it was their first race, they should all be proud of themselves. Miss Harris would also like to thank the Upton Cross parents that helped tow her out of the mud! Can’t wait for the next race ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿƒ

Dear families,
I just wanted to pen a note to say โ€œGoodbyeโ€ to our Year 6 children…
Our Year 6’s have had to cope with far more than they should have had to over the last two years. But, they have shown resilience, gorgeous manners, a love of learning and an excitement for life! They leave well prepared for secondary life, and we will miss them….

Year 4 had a great time playing the new school set of glockenspiels for the first time. They hugely enjoyed it and asked to have Music again the next day!

Reception had a fun day yesterday with their bike balance training! ๐Ÿšด๐Ÿšดโ€โ™€๏ธ
Balanceability offers a sustainable programme for schools to promote the physical benefits of cycling for young children as well as providing a fun and engaging activity. The programme offers children the ability to become competent cyclists at an early age through the development of balance and control.

The Year 5s were aiding the Year 1s with their coding skills yesterday afternoon. ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿ’ป
The atmosphere was full of buzz as the Year 1s began their journey through Code.org. Our Year 5 โ€˜expertsโ€™ were keen to help with the reading of the course, guide with the block coding, and support the adults. ๐Ÿคฉ

One of our governors, Simon Cassidy, has been made Mayor of Liskeard! A big congratulations from all of us at Liskeard Hillfort Primary School! ๐Ÿคฉ

Year 3 have been super busy today making their very own pasties!
Each pupil designed and created their pasty, all helping to prepare their own meals as part of their DT work. ๐Ÿฝ
There were lots of ingredients to choose from and everyone chipped in to help prepare the meat and veg. ๐Ÿฅฉ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿง€
All pupils will be coming home with their pasties tonight and we’re sure they will enjoy their scrumptious creations. ๐Ÿ˜‹

We had a PCSO arrive at Hillfort yesterday!
PCSO Steed visited our Reception and Year 1 pupils to discuss the importance of the police and the different ways in which they can help people.
Some fantastic questions were asked at the end of each session and some amazing colouring took place!

We are delighted to welcome visiting tutors from the National Tutoring Programme.
Tutors are coming into the school to work with a variety of year groups and children โ€“ just one of the ways โ€“ that Hillfort children are catching up on lost learning! ๐Ÿคฉ

We would like to present the new voice of our school answerphone! ๐Ÿ“ž
Meet Noah, one of our Head Boys in Year 6 ๐Ÿคฉ

We have some new Rockstars this week! ๐Ÿคฉ

Katie, Maisie, Shelby, Fred and Bethany in Year 5 were the first to receive their new books from our vending machine! Well done to all of you!

All our pupils are currently outside watching the final part of the amazing Moana Jr performance! ๐ŸŒŠ
What a fantastic show The Early Energy Centre have put on and such remarkable talent from those involved, including one of our very own Year 6 pupils! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸŽค
A big thank you from #TeamHillfort
๐Ÿคฉ

Sports Day was a success and we would just like to say a HUGE well done to all our pupils today! ๐Ÿคฉ
Year 6 did a fantastic job setting up the carousel and providing classes with some excellent introductions and demonstrations. We were extremely proud and grateful to see them also going above and beyond to provide help to not only KS2 but also our KS1 pupils when completing their stations. ๐Ÿคฉ
As for all the pupils that competed today – again a HUGE well done to you all and congratulations to all those who received 1st, 2nd and 3rd place medals! ๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿฅˆ๐Ÿฅ‰
It was great to see so many smiley faces and happy children… so much so that Miss Harrington has taken way too many photos and we simply cannot upload them all to our social media.
Next week we will be looking into the best way we can share these photos for all our parents and carers to enjoy the day.
Well done #TeamHillfort ๐Ÿคฉ

Year 2 had a fantastic afternoon exploring Hillfort Woods and searching for their list of mini bugs today!
Check out our newly renovated conservation area and make sure to visit if you get the chance. โ˜€

We have some little ducklings!! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜
7 have hatched so far and they are looking very sleepy after a morning with the Year 2 pupils. ๐Ÿ˜ด

Below is a photo of Daisy in Y4. She has had her hair chopped in aid of The Little Princess Trust. ๐Ÿ’‡โ€โ™€๏ธ
The hair is 12 and 1/2 inches long and weighs 50 grams!
I think you’ll agree she looks fabulous. ๐Ÿคฉ

We have 3 special pupils here that received a headteacher award yesterday! ๐Ÿ…
Nicky and Bryher both got into grammar school by passing their 11+ examinations! A big well done to you both! and Peter has also received a headteacher award for completing some superb work in Maths.
Well done to all of you! ๐Ÿคฉ

Ted has volunteered to de-weed our gardens and we must say, an amazing job has been done so far and what a beautiful day to get started! โ˜€๏ธ

Year 5’s had an awesome day with The Stay Safe Initiative. We talked about bullying, friendship, making positive connections online, how to get help and so much more.

We have our final winners for Mrs Cotterill’s Easter egg competition!
In 1st place is Spencer in Year 3!
Also in our top 3 are Jonah in Year 1 and Rogan in Reception. ๐Ÿคฉ
